MUSEUM OF SACRED ART – Massa Marittima

The San Pietro all’Orto Museum Complex, opened in 2005, houses works of sacred art coming mostly from the Cathedral of Massa Marittima, from the city churches of Sant’Agostino (St. Augustine) and San Francesco (St. Francis); the finds are evidences of the most important moments of the religious and civil history of Massa Marittima. We can mention important sculptures of the 12th and 13th centuries, including Gothic goldsmithing, the “Maestà” (Majesty) painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti (1335-1337) and other paintings, which are evidences of the 15th-century art throughout this territory.
